The Netherlands is a small country with a high population density. Building land is very expensive, but the air above the ground is free. So most houses have multiple stories, interconnected with stairways. I’ve spent a year constructing and installing wooden stairs all across the country in diverse buildings, ranging from small houses to large buildings like the new Theatre Amare in the Hague, designed by the famous Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas.
